Top 5 Southwest Michigan Bike Trails for Foodies and Explorers

You came for peace, fresh air, and many fantastic Michigan bike trails. Good news: they’re all around us. Think forested paths, dune trails by the lake, and quiet backroads that wind past wildflowers.

Some trails feel like they were made just for you. Others will push your pace and challenge your skills.

We’ll point you toward the best routes, hand you a trail map, and send you off well-fed. Then we’ll be right here when you roll back in, garden blooming and hammock waiting. Let’s begin with a trail that blends town-to-town cruising and natural variety.

Marquette Greenway Trail

Looking for a trail that blends pavement with well-packed gravel? Try the Marquette Greenway Trail. It weaves through dunes and woodlands near New Buffalo, connecting charming towns along the way.

Some stretches ride smoothly under road tires; others call for extra grip. The changing terrain makes it one of the most scenic bike trails in Michigan. You’ll pedal past lake views, shady trees, and maybe even a fox or heron. It’s a great way to ease into your Southwest Michigan ride.

Start your ride at David’s Delicatessen & Coffee, which is known for its sandwiches and bold espresso. Afterward, swing by Black Currant Bakehouse for hand pies and scones packed with seasonal flavor. Craving a treat? Oink’s Dutch Treat serves 50 ice cream flavors in a retro, cheery setting.

Harbor Country Hike & Bike Trail

This one’s a favorite for cruising through some of the prettiest spots in Harbor Country. The Harbor Country Hike & Bike Trail runs alongside quiet roads and tree-lined stretches. You’ll even pass beach access points worth bookmarking for later. It’s mostly flat, perfect for coasting between stops.

Hungry? Stop at Brewster’s New Buffalo, Bentwood Tavern, or Ghost Isle Brewery along the way. If you’re pedaling with dinner in mind, you might even swing by Copper Rock Steakhouse. It’s one of our favorite Michigan bike trails for mixing scenic rides with good food.

Red Arrow Trail

The Red Arrow Trail runs parallel to Red Arrow Highway, bringing serious Southwest Michigan charm. However, this trail is about more than the miles. It’s also about what you’ll taste along the way.

Ride past tree-shaded sections, quiet turns, and tempting aromas from roadside kitchens. Looking for a reason to hop off your bike for a taste?

We’ve got a few satisfying stops you’ll love.

  • Red Arrow Roadhouse – Classic comfort food, cozy vibe, and perfect post-ride burgers
  • Timothy’s Restaurant – Elegant plates in a casual setting, ideal for a lunch reward
  • DogSlinger – Gourmet hot dogs with attitude, quick service, and fun outdoor seating
  • Lake Street Eats – Easygoing café serving fresh sandwiches and sweet treats

You can cruise, refuel, and cruise again — that’s the rhythm we love along this trail.

Chikaming Township Park and Preserve Trails

If you want a quiet escape into the woods, this one’s your trail. The Chikaming Township Park and Preserve Trails wind through forest paths, open meadows, and shaded boardwalks.

When guests ask for something calm and quiet, they’re among our favorite Michigan bike trails. The loops here are short but beautiful. Ride before breakfast or just before dinner.

After your ride, check out nearby bites at PostBoy or Greenbush Brewing. After all, you’ve earned it.

We offer wellness services and an on-site farm market. There’s also a heated pool and hot tub in a greenhouse. You can enjoy them year-round.

No matter your style, we’ll help you find your next stop or welcome you back.
