Goldberry Woods is a playground for inquiring minds. Steps from the inn and cottages, there are 30 acres of unspoiled nature to explore, our lovingly cultivated organic farm and the Galien River’s meandering charms. Hike, bike, paddle, kayak, bird watch, bee watch and let your imagination wander. On foot or by water, guests connect with nature and escape to the heart of Harbor Country for outdoor vacations in Michigan. There’s so much to explore in our backyard. You can also take part in an array of monthly experiences that we offer, including gardening, yoga, cooking classes and more!
Woods & River
From our 30 acres of pristine woods, there’s much to explore on foot. Pack a lunch, throw on your favorite hiking boots and forge your path, at your own pace. Our stretch of the Galien River is a basecamp for adventure travel. Choose from a selection of small vessels (kayaks, a double kayak, a double canoe, stand-up paddle boards) and go with the flow. Whether guests enjoy leisurely glides or serious exercise, the Landing is where it all begins.
Pool & Barn
Our newest improvement to the Goldberry Woods compound is our large 45-ft heated pool and Barn venue. The heated pool area is enclosed in a greenhouse for the winter for year-round swimming and hot tubbing! Catch some rays on a chaise lounge or relax in the shade under one of our umbrellas. Pool towels are provided.
Our Barn venue is the perfect spot for your larger group gathering—including family reunions, corporate retreats, yoga or wellness retreats, church groups, or an elopement or small wedding. We can accommodate groups of up to 75 people. Overlooking the pool area, the Barn features two bathrooms, a shower/changing room, kitchen, tables/chairs, pool table, ping pong table, a vintage Atari game, and has heat and A/C. The Barn can be rented as part of any group stay.
Play
Our expansive property also includes amenities that are free for your choosing: Borrow one of our many bicycles and ride a mile over to our beautiful local beach for sunset—or head out and explore the many miles of marked routes on the Harbor Country back roads (or explore a local mountain biking trail). Lots of scenic rides to choose from!
Our owner-made play structure is the perfect spot for the kids. It features climbing walls, swings, a slide, monkey bars and multiple upper decks to explore. It even overlooks the Aviary with our chickens, duck, and quail.
Lawn games at Goldberry Woods include volleyball/badminton on our lawn, cornhole (bags), bocce, or horseshoes.
At the end of your day, set up and enjoy an evening around one of our many fire pits. Each building has its own, and we supply the wood! Feel free to bring along your s’more’s fixings or buy one of our kits.
